Why a photo shows up sideways
Cameras and phones often save a photo in one fixed orientation and add an EXIF "orientation" flag that tells viewers how to turn it. Most apps respect that flag. Some don't. So the same picture looks upright on your phone and sideways in an email, a web form, or a printed document. Rotating the image here rewrites the actual pixels, so the file looks identical everywhere — no hidden flag to ignore.

How do I rotate a sideways photo upright?
Drop the photo, then click rotate left or rotate right until the preview is upright. Rotate right turns it 90° clockwise; click twice for 180°. Apply and download to save the corrected file.
Does rotating lose image quality?
Rotating by 90, 180, or 270 degrees is lossless on the pixels themselves — no pixels are resampled. If you export to JPG there's the normal one-time JPG compression; pick PNG or WebP to avoid even that.
Why does my phone photo look rotated wrong everywhere?
Some apps ignore the EXIF orientation flag a camera writes, so a photo that looks fine on your phone appears sideways elsewhere. Rotating it here writes the correct pixels directly, so it displays the same way in every app.
How do I flip or mirror an image?
Use flip horizontal to mirror left-to-right (handy for selfies with backwards text) or flip vertical to mirror top-to-bottom. You can combine flips with rotation.
Are my images uploaded anywhere?
No. The rotation runs on a canvas in your browser. The image never leaves your device — you can confirm in the browser Network tab.
Can I rotate a HEIC photo from my iPhone?
Convert the HEIC to JPG first with our HEIC to JPG tool, then rotate the JPG. HEIC needs a separate decoder, so it isn't accepted here directly.
What is the maximum file size?
30 MB per image. Larger images can run out of memory on mobile browsers.
